Hello from London… December 6

Hello from London!

Seriously, what happened to this year?!!! December is upon us once again, although you would never know it from the mild weather we have been having. Luckily morning walks in the park are still sunny and dry. That’s important when you have short dogs!

It’s going to be a very different December for us, that’s for sure! Our niece and her fabulous family are visiting from Canada. They will be in London for Christmas and New Year’s and we are going to do the town. Christmas lunch is booked at a 18th century pub just up the road.

We are looking forward to being able to stop, breathe and have some fun since we’ve been so busy over the Autumn with Masterclasses and designing programmes that will be rolled out in 2015.

Of course we did stop to hop across the road (literally across the road, we aren’t kidding !) to see the Christmas fair and the lighting of the Village lights. It’s not everyday you get to see a camel in the middle of the Square! And the 3 Wise Men were there to complete the set! That would be the Village vet, a real estate agent and a shopkeeper…the neighbours…need we say more!

About to Snap Like a Christmas Kracker? Day 4

The Burnout Queen’s 12 Days of Holiday Stress Relief will help you through.

Day 4:  Mrs. Claus Was A Perfectionist!

She takes care of everything!  She packs the sleigh, hires the seasonal help, makes sure Santa stops for snacks, checks the bulb on Rudolph’s nose, and keeps all those Elves in line!  Oh she’s a trooper, but don’t follow her lead!

Forget planning the perfect family gathering (!!), finding the perfect present, accomplishing the perfect holiday decor, and dine out if you are looking for the perfect holiday meal.  Or you could always hire the Elves!

Life is too short, and thank goodness so are the holidays!  Time to let go of perfection and enjoy the holidays.  So short-circuit the mental exhaustion of perfect and repeat after me…good enough is good enough!

Have a perfect holiday…just kidding!

Day 3:  Grumbling Into Your Eggnog Because You Said ‘YES’ One Too Many Times?

Seriously there is no ‘peace and good will’ if you end up doing lots of things you don’t want to.  So start early in the holiday season and say a few NOs.  Just make your “No” gracious and move on.  How Queenly is that!

If you want to have the energy to really enjoy what you choose to celebrate, it’s not too late, just say “No”!

No kidding!

Day 2:  It’s About Aunt Flossie’s Candy Cane Trifle!

The BIG holiday rule is that you can never break the holiday rules.  After all your Great Great Great Aunt Flossie made her famous candy cane trifle for the first time and we’ve had it every year since!  It’s tradition!

Do you dread some of the usual holiday traditions and get queasy when you think of breaking them? Time to sit down with a cuppa and have a really honest think about them.  What do they mean to you?  Do they make you smile at the memories, snarl or want to weep?

So keep the ones that are meaningful and cross off the ones that no longer fit!  Worried about ruffling some turkey feathers?  Keep in mind that it will all be over by January 2!

Make this the year you start some traditions of your own.  Reinvigorate the holidays with something new!

Be bold,

Day 1:  On The First Day Of….Make A List!  Make 2!

List everything you have to do, should do, ought to do, would like to do, have promised to do during the holidays.  Then get real!

Immediately cross off the ‘shoulds and ought tos’ and then divvy your tasks up  with this fabulously simple method.

First:  Focus on your ‘Absolute Musts’.  These are pretty obvious.

Second:  Decide on your ‘Great Ifs’. You know these ones, “Time permitting it would be ‘great if’ I could get to [fill in the blank]”.

Third:  [Oh we love these] ‘If onlys’!  “If all Santa’s helpers showed-up I could paint my whole house in 2 days time!”  And, Mrs. Claus would supply the treats!

Of course Christmas is a magical time, but save the magic for sugar plums and not your To Do list!

It’s good to believe,
