Burnout

The experience of living with burnout and exhaustion for professional, creative and highly sensitive women

Unplugging from social media and ‘going human’ for a day!

Can you?  Would you dare?  Is it possible for you to leave social media alone for one day and ‘go human’?

Did I just hear an almighty gasp!?!

Ask yourself this….  Will my social media ‘friends’ who I have never met (and probably never will) care if I have no post, tweet, pin or media footprint online for one day?

The Burnout Queens see people out and about having a good time, but instead of experiencing and focusing on the time they are having, they are focused on recording the moment to quickly upload to their thousands of friends.  What is going on?  Before digital and instant sharing, we just had fun and then ‘shared’ the memories with others after we returned home…not during!   No wonder we aren’t quiet, reflective and truly connected any longer.

Here’s the challenge.  Get out of your tech-mode and step into life-mode for one day.  Speak to people instead of tweeting with them.  Walk with friends and enjoy their company.  Call and chat instead of sending an email.  If you are on your own sit in a café and watch others.  It just might spark a spontaneous chat with a fellow human, rather than your android (it even sounds strange writing this).

See you in 24 hours…we’re unplugging and going human!

Love, The Burnout Queens xx

Literally.  Purchase a scented candle in your most favourite scent or find a new aroma to enhance your home.

Redesign a space in your home just for you.  Take time to gather pictures of spaces you love and then notice the colours, the shapes of objects, the type of objects that your stylish eye is drawn towards.  It’s time for ‘a room of your own’ let it be beautiful.

Surround yourself with classy, stylish, elegant bits and pieces in your office, in your bedroom…well, a little elegance anywhere can lift your senses.  Indulge in anything and everything that says ‘elegance’ to you.

Enjoy a classic Afternoon Tea.  Wherever you are, an elegant hotel or at home, put on your best perfume and enjoy the decor, music, and a treat.  Stretch the joy, buy yourself a beautiful tea cup and saucer for everyday use.

Whether browsing or buying, expand make yourself a promise to only shop in interesting and beautiful stores this year (no express, no ‘big box’ and limit online).  Even when your budget is tight treat yourself to something small and delightful.

Visit art galleries and enjoy the works of the Masters.  No gallery? Buy an artbook of your favourite artist and leave it open on the coffee table to inspire, spend time in the art section of the library or bookstore, or once a month treat yourself to an art postcard.

Why not take up yoga or ballet to keep you beautifully balanced throughout the year.  The flexibility and strength will allow you the great freedom of health and vitality.

Learn something new this year.  Maybe you’ve always wanted to speak a different language, yearned to become an amateur sommelier, photographer, or an elegant chef.  If you can dream it, you can sign yourself up for the experience.

Book yourself for an hour, day, or weekend package at a local spa or spa retreat.  Treat your body and mind, not to mention all your senses.

Time to get rid of old baggage!  Seriously, in the era of carry-on it’s important to upgrade and simplify your style of luggage.  No more fuss and bother.  Little and elegant makes for a relaxing trip.
