Hello from the English countryside!

Hello from London & Brighton

How was your December Darling? We hope you are resting-up after the hectic, frantic antics of the festive season. The Burnout Queens and Pups are having a leisurely holiday break and will be ‘back in the saddle’ in early January.

Christmas 2016 | The Burnout Queens

We love surrounding ourselves with beauty and holiday time in London fits the bill nicely. We tripped up to London for a day of walking, shopping and sightseeing in Piccadilly (outside The Ritz) and Carnaby Street (we’re 60’s children so Carnaby means a special groovy) to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the decorations.

This holiday was purposely quieter than last (we had 5 family members from Canada visiting, ho, ho, ho). This is our first Christmas seaside so we shared meals with new friends, walked The Lanes and Laines (yes they are different), started a new puzzle (what were we thinking) and got creative redecorating and reorganising (the pups think these are great toy balls).

Redecorating | The Burnout QueensOf course there’s been a lot of cuddling the pups, eating chocolates and watching telly cause that’s the perfect mix for these two HSPs. But you know us, we are never far away from a good cup of tea and cake!

Listen, if your holidays didn’t go to plan and you swear you’re tossing the whole thing next year, take heart darling and grab our video “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Chaos”. We’ve extended our Christmas Chaos Charity Campaign to January 5th, so here’s your chance to make next year more delightful rather than dreadful! The bonus is with a mere £2 purchase, we (that’s you, us and the UK gov’t) give a young girl an education instead of spending her days walking miles to gather water. How Burnout Queen brilliant!

What’s left? We have lots of ideas swimming in our heads ready to put down on paper for all of you, but more about that later. For now…

Love for 2016!

Falling leaves, gusty winds and holiday decorations can only mean goodbye Autumn and hello December Madness. The Burnout Pups love running shoulder deep through piles of leaves, squirrel spotting (codename ‘ducks’ so they don’t run after them), and of course showing their proper respect for Remembrance Day.

As for The Burnout Queens, we ‘went to the theatre’ to enjoy the Theatre Royal’s beauty, great music, and dance (Priscilla Queen of the Desert & The Last Tango what fun).

It’s always exciting to hop the train into London, especially when we discover the unexpected along the way. On this trip, a street market in upscale Chelsea. It definitely put us in the mood for holiday shopping at the Physic Garden Christmas Fair, but not enough to try the roasted chestnuts…maybe next year!

Speaking of Christmas, we’ve been told our seaside city holds quite a few quirky seasonal festivities in December… but you will have to wait until our next edition to see them.

Until 2016… Embrace Life!

PS: Darling, come join our Christmas Chaos Charity Champaign 2015 for WaterAid. You get a fabulous gift to destress the holidays and we donate the proceeds to give girls an education instead of trekking for water. A true gift of giving in The Burnout Queen’s style.

Outsmarting a Wet Umbrella, HSP Style

umbrella holder

This HSP woman has had enough.

Have you ever been caught out in the rain and then had to stuff your dripping umbrella into your bag before going inside? Yeah, you know what happens after that don’t you?  Everything inside that gorgeous tote gets soaked, soggy, damp and ugly to touch.

Well, I know an HSP woman who solved this dilemma in style. With this simple and really inexpensive trick she no longer leaves her umbrella at the shop door (to get taken) or drops it under her seat to soak the floor.  No this savvy HSP stylist on a recent shopping trip found this brilliant solution. (I would never have thought of this)

This is actually a waterproof bottle holder bought at a kitchen shop for less than £1. Cut off the long strap (or leave it on for style) and it’s set to go.   Cue the rain (which isn’t hard at this time of year).  Now when that darn umbrella gets sopping wet, she puts it inside the waterproof pouch, locks it shut and puts the whole thing in her tote.  When she gets back to the flat out it all comes and the inside of the tote is dry and preserved (no more pool of water at the bottom of the bag, no more diary unreadable, no more fried mobile).  The added bonus is neon colours are easily seen inside the big bag so it’s super easy to find it.

Give it a whirl. It works.  Thanks Dr T (our stylish HSP)

Hello from London & Brighton

November and we gained one hour of precious time back for another year! Don’t know how you used your extra hour, but this Burnout Pup never needs an invitation to catch up on beauty sleep! (cute, cuddly and lazy)

Hello from Brighton-London

We had a less eventful October. Roof repairs kept us in more than we wished (how many visits & workmen does it take to fix a roof) but it’s now done and no more leaks! With the plants back in place, we got busy preparing the ‘garden’ for winter! We enlisted the help of two little gardeners but they were too busy peaking at the neighbours to be of any use! And one of them spent the afternoon mesmerised (as he does) by the watering can.

We booked a cultural day trip into London’s V & A Museum’s Shoes: Pleasure & Pain and The Fabric of India. No pictures allowed, but they were stunning, shocking (little shoes on grown women), historical (14th C sandals) and the Fabrics were vibrant and inspiring. Of course, stopping, sitting & sipping tea is always a great way of soaking up the London vibe.

Back at the seaside, we’re continuing to discover new and quirky areas to visit, like The North Laines’ cute shops, tea stops and locals (if you want a good shave you’ll just have to step over this guy’s sun perch).

October means Autumn (Fall to our North American lovelies) has arrived. Here by the seashore we’ve been enjoying sun, wind, crashing waves and the beautiful super moon rising above the roof terrace!

September brings the art fair season. Brighton Art Fair blew us away and gave us a chance to meet artists in our own backyard. Of course, we stopped for tea and Victoria Sponge amidst the paintings and decided a bigger art budget is now required. Another fine day we hopped a coastal train to the next town of Worthing for a look-round and a little shopping (winter boots were on the list).

The Burnout Queens love day trips, especially when it involves being London bound. Imagine beauty, greenery, history, and art all rolled into one garden. Ta-dah! The Chelsea Physic Garden is stunning this time of year (even with the short sharp shower we endured standing in the midst of blooms) and it holds a very special place in Dr T’s ancestory!

And what would our days be without sharing a walk and cuppa with The Burnout Pups. ‘Cafe manners’ training is their new skill set to ensure we sit inside over the winter (so far staff have all fingers)!

9-quiet-garden-tea550

gate150Between adventures we worked a little too, launching new digital classes and our new global, members only, club for women The Realm! We sincerely promise to set a good example and Defy Ordinary (any excuse for an adventure, wink wink)!

Day trips and pet sitter already booked for October, and we can’t wait to snap-the-adventures for you.

Until next time, Embrace Life!
