Be The Woman You Were Meant To Be!

Be The Woman You Were Meant To Be! Authentic and Cool!

Are you ready?  Are you ready to step out into the world as the authentic powerful, sensitive and creative woman you are?  Well, my Darlings, the world is ready and waiting for you!

It’s time!  It’s time to stand strong in who you are and stop pretending you are less!  It’s time for you to shout it to the world…

“It’s COOL to be ME!”

The world needs you!  You have an obligation to share your brilliance with the world so that the rest of us can grow in wisdom, depth, compassion and understanding.

When you embrace your strengths, talents, and gifts you contribute to the world.

Whenever you are true to yourself you inspire others.  You inspire your family, your friends, and your colleagues.  In fact, you can be an inspiration to anyone you connect with.  Everyone has something unique to offer and by living your own unique truth you give others the courage to do the same.

In an everyday spiritual kind of way you are inspirational just being yourself.

So we have to ask…Do you keep parts of yourself secreted away?  Do you hide, discredit, minimise or deny your true gifts?  It’s time for you to own your truth and be clear about what you have to offer!

So, there is no more time for excuses!  It’s time for you to value your talents, gifts and strengths and it’s definitely time for you to share your beliefs, ideas, and opinions!  When you do you will be amazed at how opportunities and possibilities open up in your life.

Now, maybe up to this point you haven’t been comfortable about giving the gift of being yourself to yourself, but we know you are very good at doing for others or you wouldn’t be a Burnout Queen!  So here’s the thing…with more and more opportunities in your own life you have more ways to touch others, open doors for them, encourage them and lift them up! Now that feels really good.

The clock is about to strike midnight on the year, but it’s never too late!  In fact, it is always the perfectly right time to be the woman you were meant to be.  Get ready to stand up bravely and boldly and say…

Hey World…this is ME!
And it’s COOL to be ME!

We love you Burnout Queens!  Let the world know how great you are!  It’s time to show up in your life…crown and all!

Love, Dr Toby & Dr Bev xx

Soul Burnout: Being an HSP in Painful Times

Soul Burnout: Being an HSP in Painful Times

“What is this world coming to?  What has happened to humanity?  I don’t understand…”

These days we are hearing these sentiments from oh so many of our Highly Sensitive Burnout Queens.  The anger, suffering and pain in the world, the apparent lack of love, the disbelief that human beings can be indifferent to each other, and we would add the way some humans treat animals with such disregard, and let’s not forget our poor planet!  Well it makes us all very sad and weary.  Sigh…….

Maybe you are experiencing something similar, a sense of disillusionment, a loss of faith in humanity, the feeling that nothing makes sense anymore.  And you know, all that makes us feel insecure, kind of nervous, anxious and uneasy.  To say it is disappointing is a massive understatement, the international events of the last few weeks leave many of us feeling totally disheartened to say the least!

At times you may feel that there is nothing left to believe in…there is.

We see this as a kind of ‘soul burnout’.  When you are Highly Sensitive it can feel like the weight of the world, the pain of the world, resides within you.   Sometimes you just don’t know what to do with it and end up feeling powerless and, yes, definitely hopeless.  So what can you do?

Well, crowns off to those courageous and bold souls who head off into dangerous places to offer aid and care to both humans and animals in need.  My heart swells with joy and gratitude with the knowledge that such brave individuals exist!  Then there are the rest of us…

We may not be ready to take a heroic stance, but we can live with Everyday Spirituality.  Everyday Spirituality doesn’t have to be big, it doesn’t necessarily encompass grand gestures, it doesn’t even have to be called anything specific with a Capital Letter.  We believe that everyone can embace life and live each and every day with meaning and purpose.   Oh don’t get all worried about ‘finding your purpose’ (that’s way too heady for us!) all you have to remember is to…

Live your life in the pursuit of compassion, kindness, beauty, understanding and love in your own unique way

Shine your HSP light into the world.  Do not live in fear.  Always strive for your Highest Dream regardless of how futile it can sometimes feel in this shocking world.

Imagine. Create. Believe.

Love, Dr Toby & Dr Bev xx

Hands Up, Baby Hands Up! (Is Procrastination Your Pink Permission Slip?)

hands-up-500

Do you procrastinate?  Pretty sure that at least 80% of you had hands in the air!  It’s such a great word…it rolls right off the tongue.

I have trouble with procrastinating.

I really have to stop procrastinating!

I can’t help it, I’m a procrastinator!’  (Love that one!)

Lose the psycho-babble and what you’re really doing is postponing, delaying, avoiding, putting-off and neglecting.  Yes, procrastination is your pink permission slip to ‘avoid’ life stuff that you perceive as risky, boring, tedious, fear-provoking, difficult, unknown, or unexpected.  Plainly put…

Postponing is a way of saying NO to your life!
{tweet this}

You may tell yourself that you are putting-off for all the right reasons:  time,  convenience, time, conflict, time, catching-up, time… or even in aid of elusive ‘balance’.  (You’re not.)  When you ‘delay’ doing something because it is  <insert scary word here>  you are actually actively avoiding anxiety, fear, change, as well as failure and (oops!) success.  Beware my darlings!

You can’t ‘put-off’ and live life fully and enthusiastically!

We know it and you know it delaying, putting-off, postponing, avoiding, neglecting, or procrastinating makes a day feel like a struggle.  Most of us  associate ‘procrastination’ with tasks we don’t want to do for whatever reason (and we can be very creative with those!).  Now, here’s where the ‘getting honest’ thing has to happen.  Read the following list, which is by no means comprehensive given how creative we can be with postponing, and then tell us that avoiding or delaying or ignoring doesn’t create chaos and complications in your life.  Here we go:

  • making decisions or choices
  • being late for work, meetings, appointments, or social events
  • billing your clients
  • complimenting someone
  • attending classes
  • not speaking out in class or lecture
  • completing your degree or certification
  • slowing down on a project that is going well
  • taking a vacation
  • taking medication
  • losing weight
  • missing gym sessions
  • visiting, calling, or writing (yes some people still do) family or friends
  • paying bills
  • collecting a debt
  • not calling the doctor, dentist, lawyer
  • not investing
  • not pursuing a career opportunity or promotion
  • not buying a house
  • not divorcing
  • not saving

Whew!  Now do you believe us?  When you put off the big stuff, you are seriously messing with your life.  Even worse, you become disappointed, discouraged and disillusioned with yourself.  Burnout is just around the corner.

Postponing is a way of not giving to yourself.

It’s time for you to stop delaying and show up in your life, crown and all!  That’s what being a Burnout Queen is all about!

Until Next Time…Grab Life by the Crown!

Red Knickers and a Cape!

red-knickers-super-coperQuick, check your lingerie drawer!  If you find red knickers and a cape, you may be a Super-Coper.  You leap tall buildings in 4-inch heels, catapult over the glass ceiling, and perform acrobatic feats while juggling small children and grown adults alike!  Sure you may feel like you are walking a tightrope or precariously swinging from the trapeze, but no one else would ever catch-on because you are a Super-Coper.

So how can you tell if you have a super-heroine tucked away inside you?  Of course the red knickers and cape is a dead give away!  After that (hmmm) you are likely female, probably a perfectionist, and most definitely the ‘responsible’ one!  Super-Copers rarely ask for help, never give-up, and make it all look astoundingly easy.

Super-Copers are expected to handle it all…so they do.

Oh, here’s another thing, Super-Copers can defy gravity!  It’s true!  Super-Copers have bounce.  They rarely fall flat on their face despite the fact that their knees may be buckling under the load or they are teetering on the edge of burnout.

Most of us grew-up admiring super-heroines, who didn’t want to be Wonder Woman?  (I mean she did have a very exciting lifestyle and BIG hair!)  However, if we have to get real here, (yes, my love, I’m afraid we have to) there are drawbacks to being a Super-Coper.

Here’s what we’ve found, not everyone loves a Super-Coper!  We know hard to imagine, what’s not to love about us!  Others want you to shoulder the load, sometimes demand that you shoulder the load, but then get a little cranky when you make it look ‘too’ easy.   Sometimes others perceive you as ‘Little Miss Smarty Pants’ and resent the fact that you appear to handle it all effortlessly (or so they think).

No one sees you lying awake in the middle of the night wondering if you can pull it all off again tomorrow.

Super-Copers do what is necessary to solve problems, meet deadlines, or handle emergencies.  They don’t wear their hearts on their sleeves and they don’t fall to their kneees or beat their chest in the midst of a crisis.  (Usually because they’re too busy holding everyone else up and solving all their problems!)

It can be dangerous being a Super-Coper.  While you are being-all and doing- all you miss your own signs of exhaustion, overwhelm, or even illness; sometimes you simply ignore the signs because you believe you have no choice but to shoulder the load.

Then there’s the Super-Coper ‘post-party crash’.  When you’re finally done, when you get the chance to catch your breath, the emotional impact hits.  You finally come down from the rush of stress hormones.  You may start feeling shaky, anxious, overwhelmed or even sad or depressed.   You most definitely end-up exhausted.  Here’s where it goes south, over-coping is so completely normal to you that you misinterpret this normal post-stress reaction as you ‘not handling things’ or as some sign of weakness which sends you running back to your wardrobe only to emerge wearing, you got it, red knickers and a cape!

Oh dear, you can see how the whole Super-Coper thing backfires!

You have been raised and trained to be a Super-Coper.  Family, friends, co-workers, pretty well everyone, have relied on you over and over again to be their super-heroine.  We would be willing to bet our crowns that you have filled this role from the time you were very young.  The time has come to be bold and to stop letting others put you in this box, even when it comes gift-wrapped.

If you are a Burnout Queen you naturally have great problem solving skills and emotional fortitude.  You have life-coping skills that others don’t necessarily have or use.  You are strong.  There are just a few little gems you need to learn like setting limits for others, refusing requests, or letting others handle their own situations or problems (whoa now that’s revolutionary!)

Even if you have been annoited the Super-Coper, you don’t have to agree to handle everything.

The thing is, it’s not a bad thing to be a Super-Coper, indeed it’s pretty special.  But you do need to recognise when you have taken it over the top, when you have donned your cape!  Being Super-Copers ourselves has allowed us to navigate some pretty steep slopes in life; our secret is knowing how, when, where, and for whom to use our super-powers.

Go ahead embrace being a Super-Coper but promise, no more leaping over tall buildings or saving the world!

Our last words of wisdom?  Lose the cape Darling but keep the red knickers because Burnout Queens live to defy ordinary!

Until Next Time…Grab Life by the Crown!

Hello from Brighton & London 29 August 2015

September is here already…really?! How did that happen. September is always a great time to get back to school, work, or university; or to simply start something new and intriguing in our lives (well that’s the hope anyway).

We’ve spent time exploring more of our seaside city with it’s quirky districts, architecture, and beaches. Taking it all in while our pet sitter is away on holidays and London tube strikes disrupt our London daytrips!

August is festival, festival, festival time here, so we took some of it in (if you read our blog ‘The parade, the evacuation and poached eggs’ you’ll get it came with an unexpected scare).

End of summer is always time when the little projects get done. The pups viewing stand was assembled on the roof terrace (they feel ever so ‘big’ thrusting their heads through the slats) and Dr B’s veggie garden is ripening (don’t laugh there are loads more on-the-vine waiting to munch) And Dr T finally got a chance to finish her art project, but not before buying cake for evening dessert (the best millefeuille)!

We’re looking forward to more unexpected adventures while daytripping in London in September. We’ll be sure to snap a few pics to share.

Till next month, Embrace Life!
