Literally.  Purchase a scented candle in your most favourite scent or find a new aroma to enhance your home.

Redesign a space in your home just for you.  Take time to gather pictures of spaces you love and then notice the colours, the shapes of objects, the type of objects that your stylish eye is drawn towards.  It’s time for ‘a room of your own’ let it be beautiful.

Surround yourself with classy, stylish, elegant bits and pieces in your office, in your bedroom…well, a little elegance anywhere can lift your senses.  Indulge in anything and everything that says ‘elegance’ to you.

Enjoy a classic Afternoon Tea.  Wherever you are, an elegant hotel or at home, put on your best perfume and enjoy the decor, music, and a treat.  Stretch the joy, buy yourself a beautiful tea cup and saucer for everyday use.

Whether browsing or buying, expand make yourself a promise to only shop in interesting and beautiful stores this year (no express, no ‘big box’ and limit online).  Even when your budget is tight treat yourself to something small and delightful.

Visit art galleries and enjoy the works of the Masters.  No gallery? Buy an artbook of your favourite artist and leave it open on the coffee table to inspire, spend time in the art section of the library or bookstore, or once a month treat yourself to an art postcard.

Why not take up yoga or ballet to keep you beautifully balanced throughout the year.  The flexibility and strength will allow you the great freedom of health and vitality.

Learn something new this year.  Maybe you’ve always wanted to speak a different language, yearned to become an amateur sommelier, photographer, or an elegant chef.  If you can dream it, you can sign yourself up for the experience.

Book yourself for an hour, day, or weekend package at a local spa or spa retreat.  Treat your body and mind, not to mention all your senses.

Time to get rid of old baggage!  Seriously, in the era of carry-on it’s important to upgrade and simplify your style of luggage.  No more fuss and bother.  Little and elegant makes for a relaxing trip.

Hello from the North Laines in ‘not so sunny’ Brighton

Hello from London & Brighton

Hello from the North Laines in ‘not so sunny’ Brighton.

This month we are sharing the creative, quirky, freaky and always fun sights and delights of this little district.  It’s a regular spot for us; hairdresser, massage, favourite Friday doughnut shop, and Sunday pancakes!  We pass on the tattoos, piercings, and fettish footwear!

There is always something new to discover wherever you live and that’s the point of sharing our everyday lifestyle with you.  We all have places we frequent but so often we forget to take the time to actually ‘see’ what’s around us.  Join us on our ramble around…

The North Laines is a mix of original seaside cottages which are now being made shabby chic and painted in every colour you can imagine.  Wish we were renting one of these, they are so adorable.

Surrounding the cottages are little passage ways (The Laines) filled with shops, cafes, bookstores and all sorts of arts and crafts stalls.

It’s fun to see the ever changing window displays and the many artists displaying their work.  When refreshment is needed, along with some culture there is always an al fresco cafe alongside an alley with some of the best graffiti (this is my favourite).

We challenge you to ‘see’ your usual haunts in a new, quirky and conscious way.  Keep your eyes open to something new, a new route to take, a new window display and who knows what else.  Go have fun.  Happy exploring.

Love,
